Whakatane Flooded
(Spec.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The township of Whakatanc was flooded tliis morning wln-n (he Maraetotara stream overflowed. The stream rose 12 feet in as many minutes and water rushed unhindered through the main street. In some business houses water was two feet deep and in most there was any thing up to a loot of water swirling about counters and stock. Rocks and silt were carried into houses and shops and damage is estimated at thousands of pounds. The water receded rapidly after nine o’clock this morning leaving- behind logs, boulders, silt and other debris.
