Tapering Off Australian Munitions Industry

Within the next few months, thousands of Australian workers will be taken out of munitions factories This has been announced by the Minister for Munitions (Mr Makin). Plants which were now working two or three shifts, he said, would be cut down to one 1 shift and surplus labour would be made avaibale to manpower officials Although the Australian munitions programme was being tapered off, the policy was to try and keep all munitions plants operating with reduced manpower and smaller output. Tlte Minister for the Army (Mr Forde) announced today that 11. COO soldiers had been released from the Australian army for work on the land and an additional 9000 would be released within the next few months
