Whangarei 15th In R.S.A Membership

The membership list of the New Zealand Returned Services Association tc the end of January reveals that the Whangarei association is 15th out ot 95 branches with a total of 692 financial members, 'including 153 returned from the present war. The Dominion total now exceeds 50,000. In taking 15th place on the list Whangarei is ahead of one city and one member less than another city. Badge date attachments fj>r 1944-45 are now available, the colour for the new season being black. Advice was received at the meeting of the Whangarei executive this week that the stock brand it had proposed had been adopted by the Dominion executive. The brand is composed of the intiaJ letters of the association’s name.

The Borough Council, having allocated April 21 as the day for the annual sale of commemoration poppies, it was decided to hold the annual" reunion on that night, members of the second furlough draft to be special guests. New draft rules to replace the old rules of the association were approved by the association and will be placed before members at .an extraordinary general meeting to be held on March 31. The president (Mr R. A. Rogers!, the treasurer (Mr A. T. Dunne) and the chairman of the stock committee (Mr K. M. Stevens) were appointed to represent the association at a meeting tonight of servicemen returned from the present war. The secretary (Mr L-. A. Johnson) reported that several badges which had been found had been traced to their owners. One belonged to a returned soldier from Gisborne and another went to Invercargill. He also reported having issued Poppy Day emblems to 60 schools in the district. An invitation from the Rev. G. Brown for members of the executive to attend divine service in theMethodist Church on the Sunday prior to Anzac Day was accepted. One member will read the lesson.
