Ruakaka-Mata-One Tree Point Patriotic Committee
The annual meeting of the above districts’ committee was held yesterday in I!ie Ruakaka School. General satisfaction was expressed at the success of the committee’s efforts during the past year, when the quota allotted to the district was oversubscribed once again. A tribute to the generosity of settlers in the districts concerned was paid by Mr 11. E. Hewlett, the chairman. Miss N. Sloane, the treasurer, gave a report of the financial position for the year, which was considered very satisfactory indeed.
Election of Officers
The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year: Chairman, Mr. H. E Hewlett (re-elected): secretary. Mr. G. B Oldfield (re-elected); treasurer, Miss N Sloane (re-elected). The past year’s committee was re-elected, with the addition of the following: Messrs. J. C. Sandford. J. W. Coxhead, H. Kepa, H. Pyle and E. Hubin The entertainment committee was also re-elected, with power to add. Considerable discussion took place cm methods of raising the 1944 quota. It was decided to make a big effort in this direction by means of a stock drive and house-to-house canvass of the whole district, the stock I o be sold at the April sale at Ruakaka saleyards Gifts of fish, vegetables, etc, to be disposed of the same day will be greatly appreciated by the committee. Official collectors have been appointed and districts allotted. Messrs. Jim Sloane. J. C. Sandford, F,. Hubin. H. Pyle and A. Sloane were appointed a committee to finalise the stock drive, and Messrs. C. F. Flyger, C. Wright. M. Mercich. .1. Coxhead, A. Cosgrove, T. Watson and J. Newton will visit householders who do not contribute (o the stock drive.
Owing to the lateness of the hour, discussion on the proposed baby carnival was left, in abeyance until a future meeting. Mr. H. Kepa was appointed liaison official between the Takahiwai Native Committee and Ruakaka Committee.
