Leipzig Has Almost Ceased To Exist

LONDON, March 14 Leipzig has almost ceased to exist. .Scarcely a building remains intact and 26,000 persons were killed in the R.A.F.’s night attack on February 20. said a Swiss national who arrived at Berne from Germany. He added that the death-roll was high because the first wave of planes dropped only fire-bombs and the all-clear sounded. Then a second wave dropped high-ex-plosives. Halifax bombers last night ma«e a heavy attack on railway targets in Le Mans, states an Air Ministry communique. Mosquitoes attacked Frankfurt and other objectives in Western Germany. Mines also were laid in enemy waters. Two planes are missing. Allied aaircraft, including Fortresses, thrice attacked targets in Northern France in daylight yesterday without opposition from enemy aircraft. One small force of Mosquitoes went unescorted. Two Fortresses and one Mosquito are missing. Thunderbolts carried out offensive sweeps over two sections of the northern coast of France this morning. No enemy planes met the American challenge.
