No Opposition To Farming High School

To ascertain the feeling of the Whangarei High School Board towards the proposed agricultural high school for Northland, the Director of Education (Dr. C. E. Beeby), who is concluding a tour of the, northern peninsula, met the board. He explained the activities and scope of the proposed school and was assured that the board considers such a school would be of benefit to the community and its policy was not to obstruct such a movement and also that it must be located on land giving soil types common in Northland. The principal of the school (Mr A. R. Ryder) said that while the school had not been able to deal with farming in its wider application, t the subject had not been neglected. About five years ago an agricultural instructor had been appointed and instruction in practical as well as theoretical agriculture had been given as far as j possible. | Later, Dr. Beeby inspected the school and also the new girls’ hostel recently completed, afterwards going to Kamo where he investigated school conditions. Complaints regarding its inadequacy have been frequent and representations have been made to the Education Department by Mr A. J. Murdoch, M.P. for Marsden.
