New School Textbooks At Opening Of Term.
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The first of the new text books for primary schools will be available at the opening ol the new school year 1 his February. Announcing this today, the Minister for Education <Mr. Mason) said that the event would mark the beginning of a realisation of a longcherished ideal, the project having been initiated in 1939, when Mr.. Fraser was Minister for Education. Both public and private schools would participate in the benefit of the free issue. Mr. Mason added that because of a shortage of paper and limitation of printing facilities the whole series could not be issued immediately. The first books would be text books in arithmetic and only those for Standard I would be available at the opening of the schools next month and those for Standard II in the following few months.
