." Bacteria .wore put under the microscope at the Rotary Club's weekly luncheon today, when* The speaker. Rotarian F. Coleman! gave a very interesting address on the subject of bacteriology. The good and evil done by different members of the remarkable [group of micro-organisms were set out in an informative manner. In the economy of life, these organisms, it was explained, are of the highest importance. Many species are activq agents in converting dead organic matter into soluble food materials for plants; others possess the power of fixing atmospheric nitrogen. Many are concerned in the various processes of fermentation, and a large, group are pathogenic, giving rise to various dis>eases in men and animals, as well as plants. Bacteria, under these headings,- were dealt with -in detail.
