Ten Million Food Parcels For P.O.W. Camps
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Some 10,000,000 food parcels were sent to prisoners-of-war camps in Germany and Italy in 12 months ending June 30 this year, according to information received by the Prisoners-of-War Inquiry Office headauarters. Of this number over 6,000,000 were sent from the United Kingdom and file majority of the balance from Canada. Argentine, Brazil and New Zealand. Australia does not pack food parcels and her quota was packed by the Canadian Red Cross. . The International Red Cross Shanghai delegate soent over 20,000 Swiss francs in julv, mainly on clothing for prisoners of war, foodstuffs, medicines, toilet requisites and sports equipment, and also bought for prisoners and civilian Internees. Eastern Hospital Needs An accredited agent of the British Red Cross, in consultation with the Swiss Consul in Bangkok, is making purchases of medical supplies for the-Chulalongkorn Red f>oss hospital, and also food, tobacco, soap, boots, etc., for prisoners and internees in Thailand. Internes detained in Bangkok are reported to be will. The International Red Cross delegate and internees in Hongkong and the agent in Singapore and the neighbouring coast spent 248,000 Swiss francs. Advice received states that Stalag VIII.B contains the largest number of British prisoners in Germany.
