A short time ago, an old carriage stopped in front of a cafe, on the outskirts of Clermont-Ferrand. Two groomsmen, dressed in their best, with black ties, got out, found a table, and ordlered delinks. They staggered, a little, and appeared to have punctuated their journey with frequent halts in numerous cafes in the neighbourhood They offered drinks all round, noi neglecting to include in their invitation a couple of gendarmes who were passing by. One of the gendarmes accepted, on condition that he was joined by the bride. One of the groomsmen assured him that the bride was very shy, and completely forgetting that he was dealing with “the law.” he allowed the most interested of the two gendarmes to peep into the carriage. The latter saw a confused mass of petticoats and veils which intrigued him so much that he investigated, further—only to discover; that the bridal robes adorned a pig, which had been bought at a neighbouring farm. - , > ••••
