WEDDING
BOWERS—ATTWOOD A wedding of interest was solemnised in the Presbyterian Church, Whangarei, on the evening of August 7, when Nora, third daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. F. C. Attwood, of Ngararatunua, was married to L.-Cpl. FI. S. (Bill) Bowers (on furlough from the Middle East), younger son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Bovvers, of King Street, Whangarei. The Rev. T. I-I. Burton officiated. The bride, who entered the church escorted by her brother, looked charming in a model gown of brocaded romaine tinsel, fashioned with high neck and fitting waist, ruched at the back with a full skirt falling into a train. Her appliqued silk tulle veil was held in place with a coronet of orange blossom, and she carried a bouquet of pale carnations and rhododendrons. The bridesmaids were Miss Melva Attwood and Miss Barbara Bowers, who wore pink and apple green taffeta frocks. Their head-dress consisted of shoulder-length tulle veils held in place with pink velvet flowers and they carried shower bouquets of pink poppies. The bridegroom was attended by Sgt. Alex Mills, of Hamilton, as best man, and Cpl. Les Donaldson, of Whangarei, as groomsman, both on furlough. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Ruatangata Hall, where about 300 relatives and friends assembled. The bride’s mother, assisted by the bridegroom’s mother, received the guests. The hall was decorated in white, silver, pink and green. After supper the wedding cake was cut, and the toasts proposed by Mr. E. S. Tremaine and Mr. A. Flriscoe Moore were honoured. The newlymarried couple left for the south, the bride wearing a tailored suit of green and black check with accessories to match.
