Early Rationing Of Batter Forecast
(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day Britain is having extreme difficulty in maintaining the butter ration of 2oz per person weekly, according to a dairy marketing authority in Auckland. Supplies from Australia and New Zealand have fallen off and those formerly obtained from the Argentine are now going to the United States If the New Zealand ration were fixed at Boz, it is stated, it would then equal only the British ration of all fats, including butter. It would be most undesirable fen New Zealand to attempt to make up any deficiency through greater exports by increasing margarine production. He contended that, while heartily in favour of butter ration in the Dominion if it meant maintaining the British ration, be pointed out; that its introduction here would not be without certain difficulties. Many people in semi-rural areas, kept their own cows and would thus be better off than consumers in cities.
Inquiries showed that the quantity of butter in store in Auckland was not large and it would all be shipped within the next few weeks. Except for the new season's supplies which are now increasing rapidly, stocks would soon be depleted. Confirmation is? forthcoming that shipping no longer presents any difficulty and early action in the direction of rationing is expected to be taken by the Government.
