Yugoslavs Record Many Successes
(8.0. W., 3 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 30. Vigorous operations are continuing in Yugoslavia, with local successes in the north . and violent fighting near Split and in Montenegro. A communique of the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army states that in Slovenia Slovene units / repulsed all German attacks and are at present engaged on offensive operations in the sector of Gorizia and Ljubljana. The Germans were forced to retreat at many points. At Sandzhak and in Montenegro offensive operations are continuing. Violent fighting is taking place in Bilexe, Niksi, Bielopole and Kilasin. In the vicinity of Split, heavy fighting continues. At Susak our units firmly are holding positions and inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. Units of the First Croat Corps successfully attacked a strong German column on the route for Bihac to Knin. Sixty Germans were killed and 11 lorries destroyed. A German military train was derailed on the Brodd-Zagreb line. Yugoslav radio, broadcasting a communique says: “Our successful offensive continued in Montenegro. Herzegovina and the province of Sandzak. After 15 day’s fighting, to avoid encirclement, we evacuated Split with all our war material. We successfully attacked and routed a strong German column in northern Dalmatia.”
