“Occupied Nations” Stamps

A new series of stamps, named the “Occupied Nations Series,” each of which is to the value of five cents, has been issued by the United States of America. Four stamps of the series have been received by Mr T. M. Conaghan, of 12 Stanley Street, Whangarei. Each of the four stamps is adhered to a special envelope, and bears the flag of a country occupied by the Axis. Paderewski). The legend is “Centuries of oppression have never extinguished the hope of liberty.” A third stamp, commemorating Czechoslovakia. is with a photograph of the president of that nation (the late Professor T. G. Masaryk). Printed below are the words: “Carrying the torch for the liberty loving people of the world. “Freedom is a creed —liberty, a necessity for the sons of the ancient Vikings. These are the words printed on the first dav oi issue envelope of the stamp commemorating Norway. The picture depicts a typical Norwegian scene, a river winding through a valley bordered by the rocky crags for which. Norway is famed.
