Auckland Vocational Training Centre
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A vocational training centre for disabled servicemen and women is being planned in Auckland to accommodate 430 persons. Details of the scheme have been submitted for final approval in Wellington by the Dominion Executive of the Reestablishment League. The proposals include 13 different departments for work and training, and provide for the training of amputees in the manufacture of mops and dusters, making canvas bags, repairs to watches and jewellery, boots and shoes, wire, metal, leather and wood work, tailoring, basketwork, arts and crafts and hobbies. The scheme is much larger and more comprehensive than any other in New Zealand, A site of two acres will be sufficient also for a recreational area adjacent to the centre. The estimated requirements are based on the assumption that half New Zealand’s disabled men will gravitate to the mild Auckland climate. Disabled civilians will also be admitted to the centre for training and treatment.
