Seasonal Work On Farms

(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. After a hard, unfavourable winter primary production is rapidly increasing and farmers are preparing for the busiest season of the year. Recent rains had a marked effect in accelerating grass growth and there are indications of an excellent crop of hay and ensilage on provincial dairy farms. Calving has been completed and herds are beginning to come into full production. Any large increase in butterfat is mot expected since there has been no major improvement in the fertiliser ration, and the labour situation. Lambing is practically over and a good percentage is expected. Shearing preparations are in train, and the first of the larger appraisals takes place in November. Within a month or so killings at the freezing works will reflect increased activity on the farm. Tire works have reached tire end of the bobby calf season and there is a period of relative quietness.
