, (Special) AUCKLAND. This Day. A statement made in an election address by a Labour candidate that only those industries which could operate without protection would survive after the war, had been brought to the notice of the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), Mr. Nash and Mr. Sullivan, stated the president of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association (Mr. W. J. Truscott) at a meeting of the council yesterday. Mr. Sullivan had been authorised to reply that such was not the policy of the Government and that the candidate] had been expressing only personal views.
