Fees Of Firemen Overseas

The question as to what should be done with the moneys due to firemen on active service was the subject of a letter to the Whangarci Fire Board today trom the Controller and Auditor-General, 'flic letter staled: "Tlk' Audit* Inspector, in his report, states the board has decided that firemen on active service be retained on the payroll and that moneys due to them be handed to tit'- substitute firemen for payment to the fire brigade funds. The audit office is of opinion that, as the quarterly retaining fees are earned by the substituted firemen, and. as the payment to the brigade fund is therefore a matter between them and the fund, their names should be shown on the wages sheets and acquittances be obtained from them for the amounts of the fees. The audit office will nor question the payments already mafic.” On Mr H. C. Rishworth’s suggestion it was decided to write to the Controller and Auditor-General, stating that the men nominally receive the amounts, which they then pay to the brigade fund, and asking for his consent to this being continued.
