Near Call For Churchill
QUEBEC, August 24.
After nearly three years, the story is told of how Mr Churchill narrowly escaped death in the German blitz on London. In October, 1940, a German bomb fell on the Treasury next door to No. 10 Downing Street and killed 12 people. Mr Churchill was dining at his home with Mr Brendan Bracken and Sir Archibald Sinclair. The blast brought a chandelier down and it fell on the dining table. Nobody took shelter and the domestic staff continued to serve dinner although the kitchen wall had been blown d?wn.
