France For de Gaulle
(.Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 24. With the exception of a handful of Vichy collaborationists, France is new neariy 100 per cent, de Gaul list, eageriy awaiting the arrival of the Allies, stated a Swiss traveller who has returned from a. long tour of France. According to the Geneva correspondent of the “Daily Mail,” the traveller reported a marked deterioration in the German occupation troops.
“I spoke to several German officers, some of whom had lost as many as five brothers. One declared that his last brother was killed, so he would return home to help Ills mother. Fie was later executed. French Communists are well organised, but de Gaullists are even better. They have 22 training camps throughout the country. The Gestapo are doing their utmost to find the leaders, but the secret is well kept.”
