Lt.-CoL Sommerville, D.S.O.
The death has occurred in Auckland of Lieutenant-Colonel Clive Sommerville, D. 5.0., late of Dannevirke. a senior officer of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the last war. Lieutenant-Colonel Sommerville, who was 62, was born in Wellington and as a young man took up farming. As an ■officer in the Wellington Mounted Rifles he iwas accepted for overseas service in March, 1915, with the rank of captain. Later he transferred to the artillery, commanding the 12th Battery in France, and eventually the 2nd Artillery Brigade. He was three times mentioned in despatches and was awarded the D.S.O. in 1919.
