Congratulations On Peenemunde Raid

(8.0. W.) RUGBY, Aug. 22. The success of the Peenemunde raid on Tuesday has been confirmed by photographs following a message sent by the Secretary for Air to Sir Arthur Harris, A.C.C. in C. Bomber Command, congratulating him and the groups and squadrons concerned in the successful attack on the aircraft research and radio location plants. “Photographs prove the outstanding success of your raid on Peenemunde and accuracy of bombing in spite of smoke screen, and fierce fighting over the target testily to the skill and determination of your crews and the effectiveness of your planning and tactical metnods. Congratulations to you and groups of squadrons under your command on this shattering attack upon a difficult and important target.” Sir Arthur acknowledging the message, said: “Thank you for your signai which will bo greatly appreciated by all concerned in the planning and execution of the attack on Peenemunde.” Damage at Kntpps A study of air photographs of Krupps after the attack of July 25 convinced the R.A.F. photographic interpretation unit that damage done on that night was as serious a blow to the works as all damage done in previous attacks this year.
