Mangonui
Recently a very successful “bring and buy” was' held in McKay’s Hall, when the Mim of over £56 was raised for the Patriotic Fund. The winners of the competitions were: Cake, Mrs. Richman; pair of ducks, Mrs. Woods; Pavlova sponge, Mrs. McCulloch. After the sale a dance was held, music being supplied by Mesdames /jimelhay, Reid and Subritzky. Messrs. J. Feisst and G. Berghan were M.C.s. On August 17 a reception was held in McKay’s Hall for the Prime Minister (Mr. P. Fraser) and party. There was quite a large gathering of Mangonui people and residents of Oruru and Peria. Short addresses were given by the Prime Minister and Mr. Boswell, after which a dainty afternoon tea was served by the ladies. The party then left for Kaingaroa find Kaitaia. Personal Mr. Herbert Foster, of Kohumaru, has left for Auckland. Sgt. H. Blucher and Mrs. Blucher are /pending a holiday in Auckland. Sgt. L. M. Mahon is on a short visit to Auckland and the Waikato. He is accompanied by his mother, Mrs. S. Foster, of Bruce Farm. Miss Leonie Subritzky, of the Auckland Training College, is spending her vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Subritzky. Mrs. Lloyd, assistant teacher, has left Mangonui on transfer to another position.
