Rehabilitation Affairs
The monthly meeting of the Whangarei Rehabilitation Committee last evening lasted over three hours. Mr. A. L. Flux, of the Slate Advances Corporation, was present by invitation to discuss various applications from ex-servicemen for financial. and other assistance. Those discussions occupied the major portion of the evening and wore of a confidential nature. | The Whangarei branch of the R.S.A. notified flic appointment of an advisory committee to consult and assist the Rehabilitation Committee on any mailer affecting ex-servicemen. The Hon. W. Grounds wrote slating he hoped to discuss northern needs with 1 ire Minister for Rehabilitation as soon as possible. and lie expected the Minister would be visiting the North at an early date. Pig Husbandry The Northland Pig Council wrote thanking the committee for supplying the names of all returned ex-servicemen. The council had arranged with its supervisor to visit each soldier and to give them every assistance in pig husbandry, and discuss any other matters in order to help. On the motion of Mr. .J. A. S. iVlaoKay, seconded by Mr. J. W. Parkin, the council was thanked for its interest and prolVered assistance. The secretary read a letter sent to Mr. Barclay asking for particulars of wages paid, and conditions affecting trainees in the proposed farming schools. Mr. J. W. Parkin, who was responsible for the letter, said it was necessary tor ex-servicemen to know where they could get. their needs attended to. There was a school at Massey College, and he considered a vocational training school should be established in Whangarei. * Mr. J. G. Barclav wrote that lie had discussed with the Minister for Rehabilitation the setting up of additional rehabilitation committees in the North, and the committee would be advised as soon as the matter was finalised. The chairman stated that a Dargaville committee had been formed, and, on his suggestion, the matter .of fixing the boundaries between Dargaville and Whangarei committees was submitted to the Rehabilitation Board in Wellington.
