Mangonui County Event On July 31

(Special) KAITAIA. This Day. The date of the civic reception to Mangonui boys who have returned from overseas'is set for Saturday, July 31. Representatives of the County Council, the Town Board, the R.S.A. and the Dairy Company, mot and discussed the matter during (lie County Council meeting yesterday. A suggestion that the reception be a day one. so thai older people could take part, and folk from a distance have a chance to attend and return at. a reasonable hour, was accepted, as was the suggestion that, the gaihering be at Kaitaia, as the central point. Mr. D. Archibald, senr., suggested that the gathering be held on a week-day, with shops closed for the day, and school children included in the plans. Others considered that, with the shortage of benzine, visitors should not be denied the. chance of “killing /two birds with one stone” and gerting shopping done at the same time. It was felt that the chance to do this would be greatly appreciated. The Prime Minister had telegraphed the council, offering £1 towards the cost of entertaining eacli soldier. This, it was considered, would be used up in transport costs. A suggestion that the celebration be held on the same day as that set for ihe R.S.A. Ball, was rejected, discussion finally settling the date as Saturday, July 31st.
