United States Bombers' Raid on Norway
(8.0. W.) RUGBY, July 25. An official communique announces: “Large formations of heavy bombers of the United States Army Eighth Air I-’orce attacked targets in Norway in Daylight today. “This is the first American raid on the Germans in Norway. “Mustangs, Hurricanes and Typhoons continued harassing tactics' against enemy transport in France and Belgium damaging at least 10 locomotives. Two more were destroyed .and three damaged yesterday.
Good Results Obtained
Very good bombing results are indicated by photographs taken yesterday during daylight attacks on two German targets in Norway, according to United States headquarters. The first bombs dropped on Heroya hit the centre of aluminium and magnesium installations, and subsequent bombs blanketed the entire plant. Direct hits were also made on a rectifier station and a chlorination unit of a magnesium works, also a power station and sodium nitrate unit in a nitrate plant. Hits qn many other buildings and stores were indicated At Trondheim, photographs show a heavy concentration of -hits on naval workshops adjacent to the U-boai basin, but the place was covered by black smoke a few minutes later. This is believed to be due to bits on oil storage tanks.
