Single Men Should Replace Men On Furlough
“It doesn't seem fair that married men who have returned from the Middle East on furlough should goback to the fighting while single men hold down good jobs with excellent pay,” said Mr A. L. Winter at the meeting yesterday of the Whangarei branch of the Farmers’ Union. He moved that the branch endorse the sentiment expressed in the resolution of the Oamaru R.S.A. concerning returned soldiers on furlough. “Married men who have returned from overseas should not go back,” said the president (Mr F. Simmonds). New Zealand had a lot of men who should be overseas instead of holding soft, well-paid jobs, said the secretary (Mr R. M. Douglas). The motion was carried unanimously.
