Supplied Liquor To Maoris
On two charges of supplying liauor to a native in a proclaimed area Gordon Francis Bridges, who failed to appear, * was fined £5 and costs on each by the Magistrate (Mr Raymond Ferner) at yesterday’s sitting of the Whangarei Court. Taken in conjunction with these charges w’as one against Arthur Jack Kaka for aiding in procuring liquor for which he was fined £3 and costs. John Pi Kaka was also similarly charged and fined £2/5/- and costs. For a breach of a prdhibition order he was fined £2 and costs. Constable F. Davis stated that on May 20 at 8.45 p.m. he noticed Bridges and Kaka walking towards the railway bridge on Railway Road. Bridges’ pockets were bulging, while J. Kaka appeared to be " under the influence of liquor. They ultimately went,, into a native house in ; Porcfvini Avenue. Witness later entered and found three bottles of beer in the kitchen, two being opened and partly consumed. John Kaka had definitely encouraged Bridges along the road when . u •witness saw.
