Aircraftman Killed A leading aircraftman of the R.N.Z.A.F. was killed when the motor cycle he was tiding collided head on with a car at Bell Block, about midday on Saturday. Ihe victim was Peter John Clark, 24. single, whose parents live at To Aroha. The car was driven by L.A.C. Gilbert Cleaver. L.A.C. Clark received severe head injuries and died immediately.
W.W.S.A.’s Bond-Selling Results The W.W.S.A., who have assisted in every way possible in Whangarei’s War Loan campaign, have achieved good results in selling bonds on the street. On Saturday, the W.W.S.A. ladies scad £478 of bonds from street stalls and on Friday, £9BO.
Second Victim of Fire. Arthur William Vincent Wilson, who received severe injuries in a fire at 166 Durham Street, Christchurch, on Friday, died in hospital today He is the second victim of this fire, his son, Neil William Wilson, aged 3, having been burned to death in one of the back rooms of the house.
Dismal Sunday Thunder rolling in the hills and lightning flashing in the sky . yesterday heralded one of the rainiest Sunday afternoons experienced in Whangarei for many months. The first shower came about neon and with a break about 2 p.m. rain set in for the remainder of the day. Thunder and lightning continued intermittently throughout, the afternoon. The rainfall recorded from 9 a.m. yesterday till 9 a.m. this morning was ,86ins. and the total rainfall for the week-end was .93ins.
