Full Penalties For Industrial Malingerers
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A statement that the Government intends to exact full penalties against industrial malingerers was made by the Minister Tor industrial Manpower (Mr MeLagan) in a letter to the Auckland Manufacturers' Association. The association had previously written to the Minister expressing appreciation of jbe results of the recent visit of Mr Moncur tc Auckland factories and of the efforts of the local manpower office, but also uiging that all absentees in industry should be subject to the strict enforcement' of penalties in the regulations. Mr MeLagan said thai. where the general record of a worker showed that he or she was known to have worked long hours or under conditions oi strain, iso-ini.-fi lapses should not be heavily penalised. He Imped there would be considerable improvement as a restili of instructions given to manpower oilierrs. The president (Mr W. J. Truscod) said tie knew that penalties for absenteeism now are being inflicted and whether an improvement resulted remained to be seen.
