Thomas John Mathews and Richard Sidney Drinkwater were charged with being on licensed premises after hours. For Hay and Mathews, Mr. A. C. Lamb pleaded guilty and they were each fined £2 with costs. For Drinkwater, Mr. L. A. Johnson pleaded not guilty. After evidence had been given that Drinkwater had been at the hotel tor the purpose of paying to the wife of the licensee money received for the sale of a radio, the magistrate (Mr. Raymond Ferner) remarked that the circumstances were suspicious and warranted a prosecution. but. on the evidence, he must dismiss tire case.
