Two Ocean Navy Well Ahead Of Schedule
WASHINGTON, March 6,
Colonel Knox, in his annual report to President Roosevelt, revealed that the bulk of the 5,675,000 tons of new warships would be on active service in" 1945, two years before schedule.
He added that a vast programme of construction and’conversion of air-craft-carriers ' would provide the United States with the strongest striking force in the history of naval warfare, and declared that the navy did not plan to return to its former dimensions after the war but must be guided by the requirements of a permanently enlarged fleet.
