SYDNEY. Dec. 20. American troops on Guadalcanar have captured Japanese soldiers’ pav amounting to 9G.C00 yen, about £6250 in New Zealand currency. Winston Turner, “Sydney Sun” South Pacific war correspondent;' says that the money was found in the tent of a Japanese paymaster and represented a month’s pay for 9600 men —since a Japanese private received 10 yen a month (about 1/3), “This is not worthless Japanese occupation money.” writes Mr. Turner, “but really hits To.io in the pocket. It is real money to the Japanese, comprising aluminium sen coins and yen notes.”
