Druids' Christmas Party, Dance

The Whangarci Druids’ Lodge held its Christmas celebrations on Saturday afternoon and evening in the Parochial Hall. The party was in keeping with the festive occasion. In the afternoon a big crowd of members and children gathered. It was the children’s day and they made the most of it. Soldiers’ dependents were especially catered for. Ice cream and soft drinks were free and. as a result, disappeared rapidly. Father Christmas was present to distribute an excellent selection of toys. The lodge is indebted to a brother who made these toys. A large Chrismas tree occupied one end of the hall, and it was laden with gifts to delight the juvenile mind. Various games and entertainments were held, and all joined in the fun of the afternoon.

The evening, catered for the adults. The doors had to be closed at 9 o’clock on a full hall of Druids and friends. Nearly all those present were acquainted with previous lodge dances, and this one was marked by its friendly atmosphere. Ice cream and drinks were available and, because the night was hot, and the full hall had made for increased temperatures, these were exceedingly popular. A yodelling item was presented by Bro. Miers, of Ruawai Oak Lodge. Mr. R. B. Furniss won the rocking horse. Two Monte Carlos were held, the first going to Miss Nordstrand and Mr. A. G. Hay. while the second was won by Miss J. Frazer and Mr. H. Aubrey. Miss Joan Frazer was in luck on the night, also winning the spot waltz. At the conclusion of the 'dance the Arch Druid thanked all who had assisted at a splendid year, Bro. A. C. Bevington was M.C.
