Chicago Tribune Sees Southern Cross Among The Stars

NEW YORK, December 20. Incorporation of New Zealand and Australia in the United States is envisaged in the “Chicago Daily Tribune” editorial, headed “Stars for Our Flag?”

The article discusses a report from the New Zealand correspondent of growing goodwill between American soldiers and the Nekv Zealand civilian population and says much the same thing is happening in Australia.

The “Tribune” says: “There is much in common in language and social organisations between the United States and the Pacific Dominions. New Zealanders and Australians are heavily dependent on America for defence against the enemy in the Pacific. Common sacrifices are drawing us together. “The time may come when a political bond between the United States and the Pacific Dominions may be required. If so, there should be no great difficulty in finding a place for them as states, or a number of states, in our union. Our Federal system is admirably adapted for expansion of this sort.”
