Higher Pay For Merchant Marine

Changes in pay of officers and seamen of British merchant vessels have been decided upon by the National Maritime Board. They become effective on February 1, 1943. The differential payment of £2 monthly will be merged with their basic pay. In adition, basic pay will be increased for almost all officers, and for all ratings except beginners. Monthly increases for officers range from 10/- for uncertificated juniors to 45/- for chief navigating officers ano 75/- to £4 for chief engineers on steam ships. For able seamen, the total monthly remimeration where food.is found by war risk money. the owner will be £l4 basic, plus £lO Weekly rates will be increased proportionately.
