Canadian Soldiers Best Raid In World
OTTAWA, December 16
The Canadian Defence Department, announcing increased pay and dependents' allowances to Canadian soldiers, has issued a table in justification of the claim that Canadian allowances are the highest in the world. The table shews the following monthly amounts:
Canada: Wife only, 59 dollars 40 cents; wife and one child, 72.60, ranging to wife and six children, 118.60. Mothers only, 48.00; compared in the corresponding sequence with: United States, 50 dollars; 62 dollars; 112 dollors; 37 dollars; Australia. 42 dollars 78 cents; 58.80; 101.64: 42.78; New Zealand. 34 dollars 92 cents; 59.10; 102.12; 24.18; South Africa, 42.09; 48.78; 82.23; 34.67: United Kingdom. 24.06; 43.22; 68.94; 27.42. Canadian army privates now receive 1 dollar 50 cents daily, which is equal to 8/6 in New Zealand.
