Kaitaia Hospital Standby Plant Proves Worth
The recent breakdown in power throughout the Northern districts gave the Kaitaia Hospital a chance to test the efficiency of the stand-by plant that has been installed and the results were extremely satisfactory. Within a very short time of the power break, the plant was in operation and functioned for several hours. Adjustments in the laundry enabled full use to be made of the equipment there and the hospital was able to function as a selfcontained unit for some time after power had been restored to the area. The hospital authorities were asked to continue to do so to decrease the load on the auxiliary power supply that was being used, pending complete repairs. The board was satisfied that the cost of the stand-by equipment had been fully justified and that the hospital would be able to carry on efficiently under any circumstances.
