American View On Tides Of War
(Rec. 2 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 17. There is no reason to be disheartened at the progress of the Allied campaign in Tunisia since it is natural for the drive to slow down after, the initial phase said the Director of the Office for War Information (Elmer. Davis), at a Press Conference. He added: "The Axis still has on aerial edge in the Tunisian theatre, but hat will be taken sate of when we establish forward air bases.”
Mr. Davis said he did not belive that Rommel was seeking to join the Germans in Tunisia but was trying to extend British supply lines. He explained that the recent official announcement indicated that there was some sag in German morale but warned that there was no serious cleavage between the people and their leaders. There never would be sufficient sagging to justify the Allies relaxing their efforts until the war was completely won.
