May Declare Rome An Open City
(Rec. 2 p.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 17. It is reliably reported that Rome may be declared an open city. All military installations in and around the city may be simultaneously withdrawn, says the “New York Times” Berne, correspondent. Semi-official Vatican circles are believed to be urging the action because of the impossibility of distinguishing between Italian property and the Vatican, which has already established provisional headquarters outside Rome.
Others are expected to do likewise if Rome is demilitarised.
