(P.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The Minister for Marine (Mr O’Brien) sfatod that an amendment to rhe General Harbour (safe working load) Regulations had been gazetted. The amendment authorises the Chief Surveyor of Ships to permit a weight not exceding 3 tons 3 cwt. to be put on single wire rope whips of plough steel rope of not less than thme quarters of an inch in diameter where he considers such can be done with safetv. This has been done to meet conditions on modern ships fitted with the latest improved cargo handling gear.
Chile —The newspaper “El Chilino” says that desnite the German Embassy's denials, Berlin has recalled the Ambassador. von Sehoen, who, with his secretaries, re preparing to depart at an early date.
