Lost And Found: Mangonui Surprise
A-statement that an air compressor had bee. -, ' -Vcated at a local limeworks, and that . ■ ad been on loan there tor some years. ’ ccasioned surprise to some members of the Mangonui County Council at their monthly meeting on Wednesday. "It is in good order, but no rental lias been charged for it during the period it has been loaned.“ stated the county iovoman. Cr. Hoskin: We younger members don t know what the county owns in the way of machinery, and I agree with Cr. Mack ay that we should have a complete inventory and inspection. Unless the machinery is hired out it has no right to be out of the county stores. It is no good to the ratepayers or the council to nave its machinery being used by private companies. . Considerable discussion disclosed that the compressor had been well looked alter, and was possitalv in a better state than if it had been lying idle, also that it was being used on essential work. The council resolved in future to charge a rental, with the right to recall the compressor at a week’s notice. Failure to comply with this arrangement would mean the recall of the machinery to the council.
