Whangarei Methodists

The annual meeting of Whangarei Methodist Church members in the church hall was fairly well attended. Tire Rev. Geo. Brown, superintendent of the circuit, for the year that relating to youth received special attention. Reference was made to the difficulties created owing to the drain on the mannower of the church. In spite of this the services had been maintained, the Sunday School staffed and the entertainment of soldiers made a feature of the social life. ...... The financial position was satisfactory. The mortgage on the parsonage had been reduced and it was anticipated that this vear a further reduction would be made. An appeal was made by the chairman in connection with the Centennial Thanksgiving Fund through which it is hoped to wipe out the mortgage and be m a position to improve the properties. The election' of officers resulted in Messrs F. W. Reed, J. W. George, C. V. Stringer J. H. Taylor. A. Goodall, H. Svmons, J. Taylor and H. Double being appointed society stewards; Misses George, Hooper and Hills, Sacramental stewards; and Mesdames Hirons, Hills, Goodall, snr.. and Silk being elected as the members’ representatives to the quarterly meeting. Miss M Burt was appointed as Home Mission secretary, Mesdames Hills and SI inn Foreign Mission secretaries, and Mrs. A. Goodall and Miss Goodall orphanage secretaries. The chairman closed the meeting with the benediction, after which supper was served.
