Junior Band Holds Annual Social
The Parents' Association of the Whangarei Junior Band held their annual social in the Marsden Hall. Rathbone Street last evening. Proceedings opened with the National Anthem, followed by the quick march, “Slaidburne."
During the evening some very amusing games were played.
The president, Mr. W. Calvert, presented medals to successful boys. Ivan Stainton received the medal donated by the Parents’ Association for allround bandsmanship and general progress during 1942. Noel Lloyd and Eric Dunn received medals for second and third places respectively. Bruce Collier was presented with the medal donated by the conductor, Mr. J. Dobsen. for most progressive new player. A cornet solo, “Antares," was played by Band-Sergeant Harvey Franks, with piano accompaniment by Mr. Dobson. This player will be an asset to any band that may secure his services in the future.
The band played several selections while supper was being handed round to parents and band friends. Aftethis the boys had supper, and an enjoyable evening was brought to a close.
Cash donations were received from Messrs. J. S. Woolley and J. Lloyd, and the supper was provided by parents and businessmen.
