NORTHLAND CASUALTIES
PTE. C. B. TEVIPERLEY Charles Basil Timperley, son of Mr L. E. Timperley, of %Maromaku, who has died of wounds at the age of 27 years, was the* first to leave the Maromaku district with the First Echelon. He served in desert raiding in Egypt before going to Greece. He took part in the first battle in Libya and was killed in the last stand in Egypt. Before joining the forces, deceased worked on his father’s farm and engaged in farming and bush work. He was a keen Rugby footballer, and his sterling character made him popular among all who knew him.
PTE. E. S. COOK Private Edward Stanley Cook, son of Mr J. B. Cook, Rangiahua, is missing. He is aged 30. Volunteering for service on the outbreak of war he attended the first medical examination held at Kaikohe. Owing to sickness he did not get away until some time later. He was educated at Cambridge and Hamilton Technical High School. Coming North he took up farming with his brother on a property at Rangiahua. A nephew, C. V. Cook, is also missing. Another brother, who went with an early echelon, is in Egypt, and two other brothers were in the last Great War. Pte*. Cook was prominent in cricket and football, representing both the Bay of Islands and Hokianga in these games.
