ml WASHINGTON. June 10. The House Appropriations Committee anproved Mr. Roosevelt’s request for 280,000,000 dollars for a drastically curtailed W.P.A. programme from July 1. maintaining employment at an average oL' 40C.000 relief workers next year dismissing 350.000.
The W.P.A. programme is now designed, firstly, to train as many as possible needy unemployed and finding jobs for them as soon as possible; secondly, to aid the war effort through projects of military value; thirdly, to relieve unemployed areas where war production has not yet provided jobs.
