Gaol, Heavy Fines Stopping Black Market

(Rec. 2 p.m.) LONDON, June 10. Fear of long terms of imprisonment and fines removing the profit are the chief reasons for the success of the Board of Trade’s new drive against black markets. The board is confident that at last it is succeeding in stamping out the war’s biggest racket. It is helped by magistrates, who are now imposing maximum penalties, and by flying squads and additional enforcement officers recruited from Scotland Yard.

Prosecutions fell by 500 between December and April. The new issue of unforgcable clothing coupons, which muse be banked by traders is succeeding in eliminating small racketeers.
