Thailand Agrees To Give Transit To Japanese Troops
(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, December 8. THE JAPANESE BOARD OF INFORMATION ANNOUNCED 1 OVER THE TOKIO RADIO THAT AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED BETWEEN JAPAN AND THAILAND FOR THE PASSAGE OF TROOPS THROUGH THAILAND. The officer commanding the British forces in Malaya (Lieut.General A. E. Percival) said today that the Japanese forces are in possession of southern Thailand. After Japan’s invasion of Thailand which began early this morning, an official statement issued in Bangkok states that Thai resistance ceased temporarily at 7.30 this morning. Negotiations are under way and a decision is expected very soon. Japanese planes bombed Bangkok this morning.
Sober Resistance Only
The German radio declared that Japanese troops have begun a peaceful entry into Bangkok and also many important points in the eastern and southern areas in accordance with the Japan-Thailand agreement. The Associated Press correspondent at Bangkok says that Thailand, after a brief resistance, ceased firing and opened negotiations The Japanese forces poured into Thailand from three coastal points at Parachuap, Girikhand. Singora and Patani.
