Little Prospect Of Shipping N.Z. Fruit
[Per Press Association.—Copyright] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. “Very little,’’ was the reply of the Minister for Marketing (Mr. Barclay) yesterday, when he was asked if there was any - prospect of New Zealandgrown fruit being shipped to Great Britain this season. Shipping space was not available last season for the exportable surplus. The marketing of the fruit crop this season was being discussed with the industry said Mr. Barclay, and next week he would meet the Fruit Board to discuss the question of prices to be paid. Discussing the supply of fruit from the islands, Mr. Barclay said shipping was difficult. There was a definite short crop ox oranges in Australia, where New Zealand drew its supplies at this time of the year. Efforts had been made to obtain supplies of oranges from Java, but the shipping position was difficult.
