Govt. Purchase Of Holdings In U.S.
[British Official Wireless] (Rec. 1.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Nov. 17. Owners of certain United States securities who placed their holdings at the disposal of the Treasury are asked to give the Government an opportunity of buying them outright, .according to an announcement by the Bank of England. The securities will be paid the sterling equivalent at the official rate of the market price in New York immediately before the call up.
The securities include three classes of the Celanese Corporation of American stock and total 15. Owners of ether United States securities deposited as collateral for the loan from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation may apply for permission to sell them abroad.
Seeing for Themselves.—The supervisot of the Lend-Lease programme (Mr. A. Harriman) arrived in Lisbon on Sunday afternoon from the United States. With him were six Republican members of Congress who are on their way to visit Britain.
